Location
The Millicent Library hosts South Coast Cinemaniacs. It’s a gorgeous building designed in the style of the Italian Renaissance. Henry Huttleston Rogers, a vice president of Standard Oil, built the library to honor his daughter Millicent, who died young and loved to read. Rogers spared no expense and ordered only the finest and first rate materials used. These include granite, oak, stained glass, terra cotta, copper, and deep red tile. Construction was completed in 1892, and Rogers donated the functional monument to the Town of Fairhaven that same year. Since then successive generations have marveled at the Millicent Library’s beauty, and it remains vital to Fairhaven’s culture as a place of imagination, learning, and community. It is open to the public six days a week.
